Star Wars Rumor: 2016 Spinoff Film Plot Revealed

Director Martin Scorsese wasn’t exactly subtle with the tension and terror of Cape Fear , the story of a convicted criminal who seeks revenge on the lawyer who put him there, terrorizing him and his family, particularly his teenage daughter. Beginning the movie with chilling music and a blood red close-up on the daughter’s eyes warns audiences that the story she’s about to recount is a violent and truly unsettling one, due in large part to Robert De Niro’s acclaimed performance as the film’s villain. The family survives in the end, with the lawyer successfully killing his former client - but the damage has been done. To remind viewers that Cape Fear is as much about the loss of innocence as it is about revenge or protecting your family, the film returns to the "spared" daughter, this time fading from innocent white to red – and keeping audiences from feeling too good about its happy end

On the other hand, we've also long heard that Lawrence Kasdan - screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back and co-writer on The Force Awakens - is the one penning the Boba Fett movie ; meaning, Edwards' spinoff (as written by Whitta) could well revolve around the operation to steal the original Death Star's plans, but it might not involve Jango Fett's "son"/clone (or any bounty hunters for that matt


Now, while all this should be taken with a grain of salt... it doesn't sound too far-fetched. Lucas film's VP of Development has indicated that the Star Wars spinoffs will encompass multiple genres , and a Star Wars heist movie would do just that. It's also been rumored that Edwards' film is a Boba Fett movie ; the Fett character could well be part of a Suicide Squad -style team of bounty hunters responsible for stealing the Death Star plans, seeing as his origins have already been explored onscreen (in Episode I

Indeed, Obi-Wan - more so than Boba Fett - is a member of the Star Wars universe whose life story has been pretty thoroughly examined and detailed in previously-released Star Wars projects. It's for this reason that many dedicated Star Wars fans have already made it clear that they would rather a different person in a galaxy far, far away get to stand in the spotlight instead - by getting to being the star in a future Anthology film, that


Director Terry Gilliam is known for his offbeat visions of the future, with 12 Monkeys focused on a single prisoner, sent into the past to help scientists cure a worldwide plague that killed billions. The film opens with the hero dreaming of his younger self, watching an unknown man gunned down in a crowded airport. Unsure if the memory is real or imagined, Suggested Studying he goes on to learn that the virus was spread on purpose by a single person, and sets out to stop it from ever happening. He fails when airport security shoots him dead in front of his younger self. The boy watches as the plane takes off, setting into motion billions of deaths, and closing the endless time loop the way it be


Disney/Lucasfilm's plan is to release a Star Wars spinoff during the years in between "Episodes", for (at least) the film trilogy that begins with Force Awakens in 2015. The first of these spinoffs - some (if not all) of which are expected to be origin stories for certain characters - is being scripted by Gary Whitta ( The Book of Eli , After Earth ) and directed by Gareth Edwards ( Godzilla (2014) ), for a theatrical release in 20

Mind you, neither of those stories (or the latest "update) claimed a Star Wars Anthology film about Obi-Wan Kenobi is a done deal - just that it's an idea that IS, in fact, being explored by Lucasfilm. Obi-Wan is also bit like Boba Fett, in that he's a popular character who played a key role in the first two Star Wars live-action movie trilogies, as well as the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series (which is still part of the Star Wars franchise's official canon) and various other Star Wars media (novels, comic books, video games, etc.). That lends more credibility to the rumor him getting his own spin

Again, keep in mind that none of this means an Obi-Wan spinoff is, for sure, going to become a real thing. Nonetheless, until further notice, it's definitely an idea that shouldn't be dismissed as being too implausible - and it's an idea that's worthy of further discussion,
